Procedure

An abdominoplasty is performed in an outpatient surgery center under general anesthesia. An incision is made below the bikini line and extends from hip to hip. Next, if needed, the rectus muscles are sutured together along the center of the abdomen to tighten the muscles and give definition. Two to three drains are placed to remove excess fluid. A compression garment is worn for several weeks to minimize swelling. Most patients go home on the same day of surgery. While full recovery from this procedure may take several weeks, most patients can return to work in two to three weeks.
