Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) Detroit
Pregnancy, age, gravity, weight loss – all factors that result in excess loose skin, stretch marks or deposits of abdominal fat. Dr. Lytle can improve this through a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty. An abdominoplasty is a procedure that removes excess abdominal skin and fat, and can tighten the abdominal wall musculature, acting like an internal corset. An abdominoplasty is an excellent choice for those seeking a tighter, flatter abdomen.
An abdominoplasty is performed in an outpatient surgery center under general anesthesia. An incision is made below the bikini line and extends from hip to hip. The skin and fat of the abdomen are then raised off of the abdominal muscle. An incision is also made around the umbilicus and the umbilicus is kept attached to the abdominal wall through a stalk. Next, if needed, the rectus muscles are suture together along the center of the abdomen to tighten the muscles and give definition. The excess lower abdominal skin and fat is then pulled down and removed. A small hole is made in the skin directly over the umbilicus and it is sutured into position.
Two to three drains are placed to remove excess fluid. A compression garment is worn for several weeks to minimize swelling. Most patients go home the same day of surgery. While full recovery from this procedure may take several weeks, most patients can return to work two to three weeks.
Patients who only have issues with the lower part of their abdomen may be candidates for mini-abdominoplasty. This involves smaller incisions and a quicker recovery.
Many patients having an abdominoplasty will combine this with other procedures, such as breast augmentation for a more dramatic body makeover.
“I look at my “before” photos and can’t believe I waited so long. Now I can finally wear dresses without a bra, and I’m proud of how I look in a bikini.”
